My desire to work with children began with my involvement in education as a parent. This led to volunteering in my boys'classrooms, and eventually working in their classrooms from pre-school to most recently the middle school, where I am currently employed.
As a teacher, I hope to meet each student’s curiosity with nature and art based, community oriented projects. It is my desire to approach teaching in a way that empowers kids through hands on, practical, and interactive lessons, relevant to each individual child. I hope to facilitate growth for both the students and myself simultaneously.
The studies of culture and sustainability will help me to cultivate cultural sensitivity and awareness in the classroom. Living in a world that is bursting with diversity, it is essential for students to recognize the enrichment that can be gained from embracing and celebrating other cultures. I look forward to continually learning about world cultures from both students and their families and international travel. I hope to bring this collective wisdom into the classroom.
Sustainability studies are necessary for gaining skills that attribute to a intelligent, resourceful, compassionate, and conscientious classroom. I hope to learn, share, and practice simple and creative living choices with students. It is my hope that my future classroom will demonstrate how individually and collectively we can all have an impact on the greater good. My goal is to promote compassion for each other and for the earth. It is through these actions that we can actively embody reverence for the world that we all share.
Through my studies I will attain more awareness, experience, and knowledge to prepare me for the field of education.
